extension-openai
extension-openai is an agent skill published by caffeinelabs. It lives in the caffeinelabs/skills repository, which has 2 GitHub stars and is licensed under Apache-2.0; we last read it on 2026-10-22.
Enables integration with OpenAI services (ChatGPT, GPT-4, etc.) by requiring the use of the `openai-client` mops package with a canister-side API-key bearer. This skill must be loaded before any code that interacts with `api.openai.com`.
Install
skills is a generic installer for any repository of Claude agent skills -- it reads caffeinelabs/skills’s own structure rather than assuming one, the same way this page reads the skill’s own SKILL.md rather than assuming a format.

What it connects to
Unverified means a mention in the skill’s own description, not a citation. A wrong claim here costs nothing to correct and nothing to trust yet.
Maintenance
MANDATORY recipe for every Caffeine build that calls OpenAI (ChatGPT, GPT-4o, an LLM, a chatbot, embeddings). The ONLY supported path is the `openai-client` mops package with a canister-side API-key bearer. Hand-rolling `ic.http_request` to `api.openai.com/v1/...` is a FORBIDDEN anti-pattern — it leaks the bearer across replicated outcalls (security + 13× billing impact), bypasses the typed request/response bindings, and forces hand-rolled JSON on a language with poor JSON support. Load this skill whenever the user, spec, or any prior task mentions ChatGPT, GPT (any version), OpenAI, an LLM, a chatbot, or embeddings — and BEFORE writing any code that touches `api.openai.com`.
